The Experience
The Devon Tradition

Devon is the heartland of British wing shooting — a country of high hedged lanes, frost-touched brassica fields, and ancient oak-shaded combes that hold some of the most exclusive sporting ground in the world. The quarry here is wild; the birds are everything a discerning gun could ask for.

Mornings begin among the keepers, beaters, and guns at the gathering. The day moves with the terrain — across rolling pasture, down through wooded combes, and along the soft ground where snipe rise sharp and woodcock flicker low through the trees.

Three Wild Birds

Snipe
Gallinago gallinago · The Bog-Dweller
Snipe
The most challenging of British game birds — small, fast, rising with a zig-zag jink that has humbled generations.
Woodcock
Scolopax rusticola · The Forest Ghost
Woodcock
Secretive and perfectly camouflaged, arriving with the first frosts, holding tight in the combes until flushed.
Pheasant
Phasianus colchicus · The Classic Drive
Pheasant
Curling against the wind from steep banks and hilltop coverts — testing-bird shooting in the truest tradition.
